La Manche to the Med for Heads On

Big cheers to the amazing Anne Arnold who at the age of 69 managed to cycle from La Manche to the Med to raise money for Woodlands' garden and art room.

Anne arrived off the ferry in France in the pouring rain and arrived two weeks later in the Med in dazzling sunshine!

Anne described some of the ascents as extremely gruelling, particularly in the heat of the French midday sun but that the scenery was often breathtaking.  When she finally reached her destination, she couldn't wait to swim but was extremely disappointed to find that the sea was cold and full of jelly fish!

Anne has experience of using mental health services and wanted to give something back to Woodlands which has offered her a "safety net" over the years when she has most needed it.

Woodlands is one of our inpatient hospitals in East Sussex and its garden and art room offer calm, reflective places where patients can work through their issues. Anne found that the art room was a place where she "went from being terrified of putting anything onto paper to being able to use the space to express my feelings and gain self confidence."

Anne was hoping to raise £400 towards buying new art materials and equipment for the garden. If like us, you are in awe of her achievement, you can still help her reach her target her at Anne's fundraising page

Well done Anne - you are amazing!!!
