Everyday Smiles Primary School Project

Following on from the huge success of the Heads On Heart of Gold project, which celebrated NHS Mental Health services and gave an accessible art project for Primary School pupils to take part in during the third lockdown, Heads On are launching “Everyday Smiles”. Local artist, Amelie Collyer from the Art House Worthing will be providing a live online tutorial for young people to celebrate and create an item focusing on storing items that makes them smile in a treasure box.

Royal Pavilion & Museums Trust (RPMT), will also be providing an online pre-recorded tutorial on how to catalogue items to create a “museum of smiles” within the boxes aimed at Key Stage 2.

Alongside this, Heads On will provide mental health resources to all participating schools, a virtual assembly introduction talking about mental health aimed at primary school aged pupils and the links to access the online live stream, that will remain online thereafter.

“Here at Heads On, we have received a lot of feedback from schools with concerns for the increasing amount of their pupils displaying anxiety. This project gives young people the opportunity to express themselves through creating something artistic and encourages them to really think about things that make them happy in their everyday lives” remarked Abi Harley, Community and Individuals Fundraiser at Heads On. “This also gives us the opportunity to provide schools with valuable resources and sign post them where families can get more support with their children’s mental health”.

The live stream will be at 1.30pm on Monday 17 May and will stay be able to re-watch thereafter.

Any young person, school or group in Sussex can take part in the project aimed at primary school aged children. If you, your child or school would like to take part in this campaign please contact headsoncharity@sussexpartnership.nhs.uk.
