Sussex Recovery College
“Before this, I could see no light at the end of the tunnel, whereas now it shines brightly.” Ellen, Recovery College student
Sussex Recovery College offers educational courses about mental health and recovery which support people to develop their knowledge and skills and build confidence in managing their own mental health. Their goal is simple: to help people learn to live well and take control of their own recovery.
The special thing about the College is that all courses are delivered in partnership between clinicians and peer trainers – people with lived experience of mental health. As well as peer trainers bringing their lived expertise, their presence as role models can inspire hope and offer a map of possible recovery journeys for our students.
Thanks to the support of our fundraisers, Heads On has been able to support the growth of the Recovery College across both East and West Sussex at a time when NHS funding hasn't been available to support this. Following small pilots in Hastings & Rother and Brighton & Hove our funding has seen the Recovery College grow to have a real impact on the recovery and wellbeing of people facing mental health problems and their carers across Sussex.
• 97% of students said they would recommend the course they did to their friends and family were they in a similar situation.
• 85% students said their knowledge and skills improved.
