Fancy dress 5k for retired teacher in Uckfield

On a sweltering hot day on Sunday 24th May, Alan Lloyd ran 5k to mark his 68th birthday whilst raising money for Heads On. Alan did this in fancy dress, and changed his outfit many times throughout the run. He has since raised £960.

Alan is a retired teacher who filled the role of Head of Physics at Chailey School. He decided he needed to do something to focus on during the lockdown, so he set himself a goal of running 5K in 35 minutes after his birthday.

The challenge to run in fancy dress came from his daughter Fay Lloyd-Howell, who works for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. She said:

“I told Dad I would only sponsor him if he was going to do it in fancy dress which he reluctantly accepted. It has snowballed. He was going to do it as one outfit but on Sunday he changed many times including Joe Exotic (Tiger King), Forrest Gump, Elvis and Freddie Mercury”.

Alan appeared on Uckfield FM twice before his run, and was delighted to receive donations from his ex-pupils. Alan has smashed his target, and at time of writing he has raised nearly £1,000. To help him reach £1,000, click here.
