On an ordinary September morning, Bev Ryan-Hawes and Sacha Zohrehie set off on their travels to Europe, to begin their 5 week journey along the Camino Way, an ancient pathway across Northern Spain. The two women were fundraising for a sensory room on Caburn Ward at Millview Hospital, the ward in which Bev and Sacha work. They also walked in memory of a colleague who tragically took her own life earlier this year, making the walk even more poignant.
Bev and Sacha walked an incredible total of 831 kilometres on their Spanish viaje. Here are some more stats from their 32-day journey:
Distance = 831.1km (average of 26km per day)
Incline = 10,634m (average of 332m per day)
Steps = 1,329,357 (average of 41,542 per day)
Calories burned = 109,181 (average of 3,412 per day)
Currently, Bev and Sacha are only £390 off of their target of £2,500, so anything you could donate to get them even closer to this significant number would be amazing. Another epic journey this autumn involved a cycle across the length of Britain by volunteer ward befriender Harry Roberts. Harry and his friend Richard Lewis cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just 9 days, raising nearly £1,000. This route covered 874 miles, which averages as just under 100 miles a day cycled.
The keen cycling duo are splitting their fundraised money between two charities. Harry is giving his portion to Heads On, whilst Richard is giving his to Action for Children. Harry is specifically donating his portion to Meadowfield Hospital, where he volunteers.
